David Hockney is an artist who I admire greatly. He has been so influential and continues to be. His famous ’Splash’ painting I have always loved. The composition is so striking, and so calming at the same time. I really feel I am standing poolside and can hear the quietness around the pool apart from the splash and I can also feel the heat. The splash itself; I love how stylised that has been painted adding to the coolness of the painting. With its simple composition you can be tricked into thinking that it is a simple painting, but I can assure you that I have taken an even deeper appreciation for the quality of the painting and the level of detail that has gone into making it look simple!”
